Bursaries and Travel Awards

The World Congress of Epidemiology will offer a range of congress awards. The eligibility and prize is listed below. It is encouraged to apply for more than one bursary, but a maximum of one bursary will be allocated per person.

WCE Congress Awards
Sponsored by the World Congress of Epidemiology
An award of AUD1,000, plus a registration fee waiver which is intended to offset expenses related to WCE 2020 attendance and travel.

World Congress of Epidemiology (WCE) invites applications for the WCE Congress Awards. Eligibility is listed below:

  • Congress delegates with accepted abstracts (for any presentation type)
  • Awards will be given based on abstract score
  • Preference given to delegates from LMIC, Early-Mid Career researchers, and IEA members.

SDG Congress Awards
Sponsored by 2030 Sustainable Grant funding and AEA

An award of AUD5,500, will be made to up to 10 participants which is intended to offset expenses related to WCE 2020 attendance and travel.
United Nations 2030 Sustainability development invites applications for the SDG Congress Awards. Eligibility is listed below:

  • Congress delegates with accepted abstracts (for any presentation type).
  • Awards will be given based on abstract score and relevance to the pursuit of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals
  • Priority given to the broad topic area of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child & Adolescent Health
  • Preference given to delegates from LMIC home countries, and Early-Mid Career researchers.

AEA WCE 2020 Congress Awards

An award of AUD1,000, plus a registration fee waiver, will be made to up to 20 participants which is intended to offset expenses related to WCE 2020 attendance and travel.
Australasian Epdemiological Association (AEA) invites applications for the AEA WCE 2020 Congress Award. Eligibility is listed below:

  • AEA member
  • Must be either currently studying or within 5 years of most recent
  • Relevant degree (e.g. MPH, PhD)
  • Must have submitted a WCE abstract

The AEA Early Career Workshop Awards

An award of AUD1,000, plus a registration fee waiver, will be made to up to 3 participants which is intended to offset expenses related to WCE 2020 attendance and travel.
Australasian Epdemiological Association (AEA) invites applications for the AEA Early Career Workshop Award. Eligibility is listed below:

  • AEA members who at time of proposal submission have completed a postgraduate research degree not more than 2 years before the closing date.
  • Must have submitted an EC Workshop WCE special abstract type.
  • Members can submit multiple abstracts and apply for more than one bursary, but a maximum of one bursary will be allocated per person.

JEA-IEAWP WCE 2020 Awards

An award of 1,600 USD, plus a registration fee waiver, will be made to up to 5 participants which is intended to offset expenses related to WCE 2020 attendance and travel.
The Japan Epidemiological Association (JEA) and the International Epidemiological Association (IEA) Western Pacific (WP) region invites applications for the JEA-IEAWP Award. Participants from the Western Pacific region who have an accepted abstract for oral presentation at the World Congress of Epidemiology (WCE) 2020 are eligible for this award. This award is intended to defray the cost of attending the meeting to support early career epidemiologists in the presentation of their high-quality research and their professional development.

  • The awardee must be the first and presenting author of an abstract accepted for oral presentation (Long or Snapshot Presentation).
  • Applications may be submitted prior to official abstract result notification, and will be given full consideration if selected for oral presentation.
  • The applicant must be an IEA member based in a country of the Western Pacific region as designated by the IEA.
  • While there is no specific age criteria for eligibility, preference will be given to applicants who can be considered to be in their early stages of professional development within the epidemiology field.
